Friday, 23 September 2016 - Apalachin - Carlstadt (New York)

Relaxing start to the morning as it's a short day into New York, well close to at least. We have decided to stay about 10 mile out of the city and catch a free bus in for each of the two days. Easier than taking the fully loaded bike into New York traffic when it's only going to be parked anyway.

Headed south-east down Interstate 81 through Binghampton, where we happened on a rest area. About half-way through the day so we pulled in for a coffee break. What a great rest area, plenty of tables, most in the shade of the trees or covered. Clean rest rooms, vending machine for drinks etc. A lot of trucks stopped and quite a few cars in and out. While we were there a guy arrived on his bike. He was from Ohio and heading for New Jersey as well, though a different place from us. Richard joined us for the break, reviewed our itinerary and offered a number of suggestions and things not to miss. Not sure I can fit more in but I'll try. Nice bloke, made for an interesting smoko, and we headed off together with him dropping off a few miles down the road.

We continued on down Interstate 80 which continues through beautiful countryside with the road lined with trees and signs warning of deer. Didn't see any though and at highway speeds, that's a good thing.

Into the outskirts of New York and the traffic was flowing freely along the major roads we were on so no problems, unlike our trip through Chicago. GPS working well and we arrived at the Inn around 2:00pm.

Chance for a rest this afternoon and planning the next two days in the Big Apple, seeing as much as we can.
